Orchard Films is looking into using Boy Who Never Slept movie footage in one of their upcoming documentaries on how teen sex is portrayed in the movies. I think this is really exciting and I'll keep you posted on any new developments. Below are some of the e-mails I've exchanged with Kate, the Associate producer of Orchard Films. Also if you check out their website (http://www.orachardfilms.com ) you can take a look at some of their completed films like "Beauty in a Jar" and "Chasing the Crown" . Their work has been shown on PBS, IFC, A&E, AMC and WE: Women’s Entertainment and screened at the most prestigous film festivals in the world including Sundance, Outfest, and Full Frame. Intersting stuff, I'm happy BWNS is getting some exposure and I hope it makes a valuable addition to their documentary, which I'll definitely be watching now.
On Nov 1, Kate wrote: Hi-I am interested in using some of your footage in a documentary--please get back to me at the above email address. Thanks! On Nov 1, 2006 I replied: Hello, You can definitely use any footage from "Boy Who Never Slept" for your documentary. What is your film about? is about? You can download most of the raw video files in mpg2 (DVD res) via bittorrent from my website. ..boywhoneverslept/open-source-files.php or the edited movie at: ..boywhoneverslept/temp-movie-download-page.php If you need them in a different format or uncompressed, let me know. I could potentially send you a data DVD via snail mail. Either way you can use any footage you would like. Also, Can I mention this in my blog? I like to keep my website audience updated on what I'm working on and on any news concerning my films or filmmaking endeavors. Thanks, Solomon On November 1, Kate wrote: Thanks, Solomon. This is fantastic. You can certainly mention it in your blog. The documentary is about how teen sex gets portrayed in movies--generally that it doesn't get portrayed very accurately--but there are some films, particularly independent films, which are beginning to do a better job. Your footage will come in to play when the film talks about how much kids learn about sex over the internet. As a result, what "adult" film makers think kids know about sex is usually way off the mark. I'll let you know if I'm going to need higher-res footage than what I downloaded. -Kate
