For those of you that haven't heard of Derren Brown yet you have been seriously missing out, Derren uses a series of techniques including magic, suggestion, psychology, misdirection and showmanship and leaves viewers completely in awe of the events they witness both during live and televised shows.
I have been a fan of Derren for a few years now and was instantly amazed at the things he can do. The best way I can describe his work would be to say that it's a like a mixture of watching a brilliant live magician who can read your every thought and control what you say and do. It's pretty scary, but very clever stuff.
The final episode of his series Trick or Treat just aired in the UK and it definitely went out with a bang! I won't spoil it for those who haven't seen it but lets just say that it involved a kidnap, a sack and some very cold water.
Unlike some other performers, Derren does not claim to have any psychic ability, and is honest and up front about the techniques he uses. One of the most talked about stunts he has performed is that of ‘Russian Roulette' live on TV. This of course received lots of complaints from the British public but proved to be an amazing piece of television demonstrating just what Derren was capable of and sending him spiralling into the media eye.
He later decided to do something along the same lines but this time he would aim to conduct a séance, all the people involved believed that the things that they were witnessing were genuine paranormal activity and Derren showed how it is possible for psychics and mediums to fake the paranormal and create a heightened sense of paranoia in a small group, it was completely fascinating, awe inspiring and great TV!
For more information about Derren and what he does, I would suggest you take a look at his official website here http://www.derrenbrown.co.uk and look him up on youtube as he really is amazing and well worth checking out!
