DVD Review Wrong Turn 2 : Dead End

wrongturn2.jpg Like the rest of the country I was expecting this film to be completely rubbish, lets face it sequels are very rarely as good as the original movie and given that the first Wrong Turn film was action packed and starred the gorgeous Eliza Dushku (who sadly doesn't return for wrong turn 2) it was always going to be quite hard for anyone to take this new version seriously. Wrong Turn 2: Dead End is a surprising film, not surprising as in ‘filled with shocks' but surprising mainly because it actually DIDN'T suck. Granted, it's not as good as Wrong Turn but it isn't as awful as I originally thought, in actual fact I can honestly say I quite enjoyed it! ...

Once again the movie revolves around a family of deformed cannibalistic inbreeds living out in the middle of the woods. This time, in a different twist on the situation their home has been invaded by a group of reality TV show contestants who are all competing against eachother to win a cash prize, each of them hoping to change their lives forever. Of course, as you can imagine most of them don't exactly get very far with that ambition, with the movie throwing us straight into the gore fest from the very first scene. The special effects have been upped and first time director Joe Lynch makes an impressive debut giving us some of the most disturbing, and at the same time often strangely humorous scenes you could wish for. One of the things I found intriguing this time around was that you get to delve a little more into the lives of this murderous, and clearly rather disturbed little family and are even shown scenes of a sexual nature between a couple of them (if you buy the uncut version that is) which well and truly freaked me out so lets never speak of that again lol. Whilst managing to give more insight into the family's lifestyle and provide a darker twist on things, the TV show element of the movie brings with it a almost tongue in cheek humour which blatantly and unabashedly pokes fun of our obsession with reality TV and the extent in which companies will go in the name of ‘entertainment'. Henry Rollins is brilliant as our extremely over the top and macho army sergeant who takes matters into his own hands when the truth about the woods becomes apparent, and although this could have quite easily spoiled the whole film and made it feel like one big joke what it actually did was heighten my liking of this sequel even more and had me rooting for the remaining contestants to make it out alive. So, If you like horror movies and thought that the family in the original Wrong Turn were as brilliant as I did then I'm pretty sure you will find Wrong Turn 2: Dead End almost as entertaining and well worthy of watching even despite the lack of Eliza (Yes, I know I keep mentioning her, and yes I am a happily married woman but even I cant deny she was hot as hell as Faith in BTVS) So go watch it for yourself and don't forget to come back and let us know your thoughts, did you agree or disagree with my view on this movie what did you think of it overall?
