Jathia's Wager Sci-Fi Post-production issues - Making Filmmaking History part 2 of 14

Green Screen Creative Commons License photo credit: unknowndomain HI, Great to hear from you, Would you like to join the Jathia's Wager meetup group?  Even if you're not going to contribute directly it will keep you informed about the production process, I'd love to stay in touch with a fellow collaborative filmmaker.  It will also keep you up to date on the actual production process of the film and the collaborative aspects (http://www.meetup.com/opensourcefilms/ ).  So far we've shot, edited and are about to release a prequel trailer for Jathia's Wager  (this is still a rough cut, the music is changing) You can download and watch it now:

Link has been removed, but this file will be publically released soon This entire scene was an experiment so I could get my entire production and post production team in sync, the storyline happens before the main Jathia's Wager film and it will be used as a prequel trailer to gain buzz for the movie and show the world that we're really doing this.  One of the interesting things about this movie process is that we will be doing the post production almost alongside the production to ensure fast turn around and lots of public releases.  As soon as the shoot is done the footage is uploaded and the editing begins.    One of the disappointing aspects of this test shot was that I also filmed the entire scene in various angles on green screens, but many of most my production team "fizzeled" out and have either quit the project or missed deadlines, or given me subpar work.  I ended up doing the ENTIRE post production (including all the visual effects) myself aside from the music and sound design. Because of the limited team (basically just me) I didn't use the green screen shots (which had most of the close-ups) to cut down on the workload.  The actors and the sound designers were all collaborative volunteers, so it's definitely working, I just wish it was easier to find good post production people (I'm in the same boat as you). Please watch it, if you're happy with my work (I can do better than this too), I'll help you personally on your film if you still would like some help on the post production.  FYI, I liked the script and the rough cut, but found it a bit slow.  I'm still planning on posting a blog post on your project with a lot more info and through review of the script, concept, and film. I'll be releasing the prequel trailer you watched above this week when the music is finalized and I can do the finishing touches.  I'm casting for the main film on November 9 and then I'll set shooting dates for the rest of the movie and have some production meetings.  I'm going to post some more info on the this process to my site, I've been swamped getting ready (especially with the disappointing production team), so I've been a little lite on my blog updates for this project.  More will follow. Thanks, Solomon Rothman Writer, Director, Actor http://moviepals.org This is part of a conversation between open source filmmakers Solomon Rothman (Boy Who Never Slept, Jathia's Wager) and Tim Baumann (Valkaama) that begins as a discussion on collaboration and ends with a proposal for defining what an open source movie actually means.
