There's no doubting the fact that Mad Money has a great cast. With the female leads being Katie Holmes Diane Keaton and Queen Latifah and Ted Danson playing Diane's husband this movie should have been an instant box office smash.

Unfortunately something seems to have gone a little wrong along the way and instead of a brilliantly funny film we have ended up with a mildly funny and watchable movie that could have been so much better.

I'm not really sure exactly what it is about Mad Money that doesn't really work, maybe it's a number of different factors. Diane Keaton was just a bit OTT throughout the whole film for my liking and whilst Katie Holmes did her best to liven up a relatively dull role it still wasn't anything particularly spectacular or awe inspiring. Queen Latifah was great in the movie, I have to say she does seem to be able to turn her hand to most roles and pull an enjoyable performance out of the bag. She was perhaps lucky that she also got to play the most likeable character out of the bunch, and the only one with a bit of common sense!

Is it me or does Ted Danson look seriously old now? It was a bit of a shock to be honest, I know he's getting on a bit now but it's a far cry from his 3 men and a baby days! Lol. I almost felt sorry for him though as Diane Keaton seemed to overpower him and steal the limelight in every scene they had together.

The story itself is fairly unbelievable, and although it's not supposed to be a serious film at times I found myself thinking I wish they would just stop all the slapstick and overly silly plotlines for a while!

Something I genuinely did enjoy about this movie however was the sense of female camaraderie. Ultimately that was the backbone of the film and the reason it didn't completely bomb. The loyalty the women showed for eachother and their friendship was actually the one thing that was constant throughout.

Whilst I don't think this movie is going to win the guys over, it might be OK if you are struggling for something to watch with your girlfriends. Give it a go and don't forget to come back and let me know your thoughts on Mad Money!
