We've been in "stealth" mode getting ready to move into production on the first crowd-driven web series - Mob Mentality. Unlike a Hollywood produced series or even an independent production, this series is being created by an international collaborative team of artists, who actually own the finished video. Fans, enthusiasts and critics will also have a chance to participate and shape the direction of each episode interactively.

The audience will have a chance to participate!

MoviePals Open Cinema will distribute the finished series and share the revenue with the creators. We’ve had to meet with lawyers, create revenue sharing agreements, and complete a plan for tracking who does what and how the entire process will work.

I'm Solomon Rothman, the CEO of MoviePals Open Cinema, but I’m contributing to this series as a collaborative filmmaker on par with everyone else and I’ll be completing tasks using the same system as everyone else. I'm currently putting together "intro" videos, finishing up the paperwork we're going to need and creating a step by step walk thru of the entire process. Soon MoviePals will pull the trigger and start actively building the production team.

Sorry for the slow blog updates, we have kept a very active MoviePals twitter account - see http://twitter.com/moviepals and we've already assembled a collaborative writing team which have completed drafts of some beginning episodes. The first series movie poster is at the top of this post. MoviePals has the resources it needs to move into production including HD cameras, lights, a downtown LA studio with a green screen, a small production budget and a whole lot of enthusiasm. I posted some draft quality guidelines for MoviePals at http://moviepals.org/blog/video-production-quality-guidelines-how-to-make-your-video-not-suck/. The idea is to make it humorous while also giving out some good tips and encouraging words of inspiration to contributors who may get rejected. Please give me your feedback. I’m in the process of updating MoviePals.org and getting ready for the next step in production. With your help MoviePals is going to build the largest collaborative filmmaking team ever assembled to work on the original crowd driven series called Mob Mentality. We already have participants from around the world and will begin filming the first episode soon, unlike a regular series this one will involve interwoven stories that span cultures and continents. Stay tuned. We'll be releasing a lot more information on the actual story lines and how the collaboration and revenue share works very soon.
