This is part 2 in a series of filmmaking discussions on audio post-production for the open source SciFi movie Jathia's Wager.
Response from Solomon Rothman On 19 Dec 2008
Hi,
We completed shooting last week and everything went amazing. The quality is very high. I've been hard at work on the editing / post production. Sorry to hear about the hard drive crash, I HATE it when stuff like that happens. I'm glad you were able to recover it and I will be releasing a be HD version of the prequel trailer (Youtube now supports widescreen HD uploads) this week. The two recording glitches sound a lot better. I tipple checked the audio on this shoot and we used wireless mics for half of it (which came through without pops) and half of it uses a shotgun mic (which picked up some background nose, but no pops and everything is clear. The footage will need some major audio post production work, but should not require any ADR.
I also would like to see what you can do for the universal spokes person's voice (the unknown life form in the original script). I'd like to have him speak with a computerized or alien type accent to his voice. I think that will enhance his mystery and add to the sci-fi elements in the film. I should have a rough cut of the short film (the timing will be correct, but the special effects will be missing) within the next 7 days (hopefully). I think you're really going to enjoy it.
Thanks,
Solomon
PS. I just got back from SF, nice city. People here are excited and hope the new president will improve our economy (times are tough here).

Hey,
i learned, the word is backup! Im lucky i remembered to...anyhow we are excited to see a scene, good 2 hear the shoots were successful. on the universal spokesperson; are u recording a VO artist for them? we can do something if not,
Danny is a voice artist and i can throw mine a bit.. i was also considering auditioning speech software for it. However if u have a voice recoding send it pls! if you can cut the scenes for timing, pre-CGI, we can start to fit a voice for univ spokesp..cool so anytime you can estimate a deadline and/or when the first scene could be ready,
let us know!
all the best,
Ami
