Slumdog Millionaire: B. I thought it was OK. Movie Commentary, Review, Analysis
After all the rage about the movie my refusals to watch it in theatres, I was prompted to watch this movie once it came out on DVD... .... er......
At the beginning I thought it was interesting-- creative in the process of how the story unraveled, the way it was shot, the colors and how creative the whole thing was-- but after about an hour of the same thing, I was sick of it. It was the same canted angle, the same flashbacks and the same intensity. I can only handle it for so long. It's not because of my imaginary ADD either... it was dull. However, the movie did give me an insight to a life outside of the American and Chinese culture.
And my movie buddy reminded me how much of a spoiled brat I am. I loved that the entire movie used Indian actors-- it's about goddam time America did that! The authenticity of it all was one of the most distinct things about this movie. IT WAS SOOO HILARIOUS THAT LIL JAMAR FELL INTO THE CESSPOOL OF HUMAN WASTE IN ORDER TO GET HIS CHILDHOOD HERO'S AUTOGRAPH. LOLOLOL AGAIN!!!
A funny comment someone made was that: hey-- she only gets with him when he's rich. It is right? The whole time he's pursuing her, she's really been kinda iffy but it's not until Jamar wins 20 million rupees that she's suddenly like: Kiss me! I guess this is realistic-- somewhat.

I didn't like that it had a super happy ending and all of it was because of "fate." It seems pretty discrediting to Jamar if you say the whole story revolved around fate since he's had to fend for himself in order to get to where he is at the end of the movie-- saying that fate did it would mean that either way he was going to have 20 million rupees and end up with the girl-- so why go through all of that? The bad guys all died and he gets the money AND the girl... if you can think of a happier ending, let me know. I know there sure ain't one in Titanic-- not completely because the super hot guy dies. It's wayy too long. I wouldn't watch it again. I guess I can kind of understand why it got so many awards-- for breaking out of the typical mould.. but the repetition killed it for me. I ALWAYS repeated "Mill-ON-AIR" after the host says it every time. It sounds hilarious. You try it. Mill-ON-air.

By the way LOVE the music video at the end.

This was a powerful movie. I
This was a powerful movie. I also lost some of the interest I initially had in the beginning of the film (due to some very emotionally charged and tragic opening scenes). I think it would have been better 30 minutes shorter, but then again it's won a ton of awards and captured the hearts of people from around the world. The ending lost me a bit, because it never really seemed like they knew each other well or did much of anything substantial together once they were even a little mature. It's hard for me to get that excited about destiny and fate type love stories, because it's bullshit. If you longed that much for a person you barley knew, when you got with them (even if you're life had been that hard before) it's very likely the wouldn't be anythign like what you built them up to be and your relationship would not work. don't let my thoughts discourage you though, it was a very cute love sotry and the look into the slums was tragic and VERY powerful! You have to see this movie at least once!
